Alternatives

A Sora alternative now that OpenAI has switched Sora off, uncensored clips included

Sora is no longer something you can open. OpenAI's developer documentation says the Sora 2 models and the Videos API were shut down on 24 September 2026, with no replacement offered, and the Sora app reportedly closed earlier in the year. Even while it ran, Sora's video guide limited output to material suitable for audiences under 18. Vellria keeps generating: an uncensored video and image service whose terms permit fictional adult scenes, offering video families from several makers and a REST API billed to the same balance as its browser Studio. It has no affiliation with OpenAI; Sora is OpenAI's name, used here only to say what is being compared.

Free to start: a new account created with Google gets 20 free credits, valid for 7 days (about 10 images on Z-Image Turbo Uncensored), and every signed-in account gets free daily uses of the NSFW prompt generator and the image to prompt tool.

What happened to Sora

We checked OpenAI's own pages on 25 October 2026. The deprecations page records an announcement on 24 March 2026 covering the Videos API, the sora-2 and sora-2-pro aliases and their dated snapshots, each with a shutdown date of 24 September 2026 and no recommended replacement. The video generation guide now opens with the same news: the models and the endpoint are no longer available, and the page stays up for historical reference only.

The consumer side went first. OpenAI's help article on the discontinuation, as reported by The Decoder, put the end of the Sora web and app experience at 26 April 2026 and advised people to download their videos from the Sora library before the cutoffs, since account data is deleted once the deadlines pass. We could not open that help article ourselves, so treat the April date as reported rather than read first-hand, and check OpenAI's help centre if an export matters to you.

Sora NSFW: what its rules allowed while it ran

Searches for Sora NSFW or an uncensored Sora still land here, so it is worth recording what the documentation said. The Videos API guide stated that only content suitable for audiences under 18 could be generated, and it mentioned that a setting to bypass this might arrive later. Nothing in the copy we read says it ever did. The same guide said real people, public figures included, could not be generated, that input images containing human faces were rejected, and that copyrighted characters and music were refused.

None of that can be tested now, and this page describes no way around rules belonging to a service that has closed. On Vellria the question does not come up for invented characters: a scene between fictional adults is sent to the video model exactly as you phrased it, and nothing of ours rewrites it on the way, while each provider keeps a filter of its own, as explained on our uncensored AI video generator page.

Where Sora was the stronger tool

Sora had real strengths, and it would be dishonest to skip them. Its guide described clips of 16 or 20 seconds that could be extended in steps of up to 20 seconds, six times over, for as much as two minutes from one starting generation, plus character uploads and a remix path, with sora-2-pro rendering 1080p in landscape or portrait. No model on Vellria chains extensions that way; every clip here is a single generation of a length its model page lists.

Vellria is also a generator rather than a place to watch: there is no feed of other people's clips, no profiles and no way to remix a stranger's video. If what you miss about the Sora app is browsing and sharing rather than rendering, this page will not fill that gap.

Video models to move to

The catalog carries video families from several makers, and you choose one on every run. ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 was the most stable model in our own clips and charges more per second for it. Alibaba's Wan 3.0 Pro handles most everyday scenes, and its explicit-oriented sibling Wan 3.0 Pro Spicy starts from a prompt or a still and can include sound. Lightricks' LTX 2.5 Pro and Pruna P-Video 2 Pro widen the field.

Each model page states the lengths, resolutions and credit cost per second it supports, and the cards below draw those figures from the live catalog. No side-by-side test against Sora's output was made for this page, and none could be made now. The video model guide sets clip length, resolution and price next to each other for every option.

Bringing your own start frame

A common Sora habit was to animate a picture. Its guide turned away any input image containing a human face, which ruled out a large share of character work. Here every video model accepts one image as the opening frame, with no blanket rule against faces, and the prompt describes what moves from there. Pictures that are not online yet go to the upload endpoint first, and the link it returns goes into the request.

Many people make that frame on Vellria too: a still from Seedream 5.0 Pro or another image model, then a clip from the still. Frame choice and motion writing are covered on NSFW image to video, and keeping a character consistent covers holding one face across several clips.

For developers whose Sora integration went dark

If your code called the Videos API, the shape of a Vellria request will feel familiar. OpenAI's guide described an asynchronous job you created and then checked until the video was ready. Here a key generated in the console travels as a Bearer token, a request names the model, the prompt, the length and the resolution, the reply is a job id, and your code polls that id until the clip is finished. There are no webhooks to register.

The API and the Studio spend from one prepaid balance, and a provider-side failure returns the credits on its own. The NSFW video API page sends a complete request, the API reference documents every field, and the models list endpoint publishes prices so a job can be costed before it is sent.

Starting without a plan

Free to start: a new account created with Google gets 20 free credits, valid for 7 days (about 10 images on Z-Image Turbo Uncensored), and every signed-in account gets free daily uses of the NSFW prompt generator and the image to prompt tool. After that, runs are paid from credits topped up on our payment partner's hosted checkout; Starter and Pro monthly plans exist for people who want credits to renew, and nobody needs one to generate. The NSFW prompt generator and image to prompt are free tools with daily uses for signed-in accounts, handy for drafting the motion prompt a former Sora user would have typed. Packages are listed on pricing.

Try it with a ready prompt

Each prompt opens in Studio with the text already in the box and the model selected; change anything you like before you run it.

  • Video prompt

Slow dolly shot through a neon-lit hotel corridor at 2 a.m.: an adult woman in her thirties in a backless red dress glances over her shoulder, then pushes a door open; rain on the window, soft synth hum, film grain.

    Open in Studio
  • Video prompt

Handheld close-up in a candlelit loft: two adult lovers in their thirties kiss against a brick wall, her fingers in his hair, clothes slipping to the floor, shallow focus, warm amber light, unhurried pacing.

    Open in Studio
  • Image prompt

Cinematic film still of an adult woman in her thirties on a rain-streaked rooftop at night, silk robe open at the shoulder, city lights in soft bokeh, anamorphic lens flare, teal and amber grade.

Switching from Sora in 3 steps

  1. Sign up with Google

Create an account with Google: a new account gets 20 free credits, valid for 7 days, once per person. An account made with an email and password works too, without the gift.

  2. Paste your prompt

Open an image model in Studio and paste a prompt you used on Sora, written out in full sentences. The model page shows the price before you run it.

  3. Turn the image into a video

Send the finished image to a video model as its start frame and describe the movement. Video is priced per second, and the cost is shown before the clip starts.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sora shut down?

Yes. OpenAI's deprecations page lists the Videos API, sora-2, sora-2-pro and their snapshots with a shutdown date of 24 September 2026, announced on 24 March 2026, and the video guide says the models are no longer available. The Sora app reportedly closed earlier, on 26 April 2026, according to OpenAI's help article as reported by The Decoder.

Did Sora ever allow NSFW videos?

Not under the API guide we read: it said only content suitable for audiences under 18 could be generated and mentioned a possible future bypass setting without describing one. Real people and input images with human faces were also refused. Vellria's terms permit explicit clips of invented adult characters.

What replaced the Sora API?

OpenAI's deprecations page names no replacement, and the video guide says no one-to-one replacement API is available. Vellria is one option for video over an API: a Bearer key from the console, a job id in reply, and polling until the clip is ready.

Can I run Sora models on Vellria?

No. sora-2 and sora-2-pro were OpenAI's own models and are retired, and Vellria has no connection to OpenAI. Vellria's video catalog draws on ByteDance, Alibaba, MiniMax, Lightricks, Pruna and others, with each model's durations and per-second price on its own page.

Can Vellria extend a clip to two minutes like Sora did?

No. Sora's guide allowed up to six extensions of a starting clip for as much as 120 seconds; on Vellria each clip is one generation within the lengths its model page lists. A longer piece is built by making several clips, often from the last frame of the previous one.

Can I try it for free?

Yes, to start. A new account created with Google gets 20 free credits, valid for 7 days, once per person, and they work on every image and video model. After that, credits are bought before you generate; a monthly plan is optional.
